Madison World Music Festival

Joe Hardtke

Our program on the Madison World Music Festival was terrific. Our substitute host, Lori Skelton, seemed right at home and the music was flowing throughout the show. I hope you liked it as much as I did. Of course, being a musician, I'm biased. I simply love putting music shows together. Any comments? You can download the MP3 here.

I loved that Iranian singer who sounded like she could have been propping up a piano in New York - what a beautiful voice.

The cool thing about her is that her album apparently isn't even out yet! We received a CD from Esty with five tracks labeled "rough mixes." A Here on Earth exclusive, you could say.

Two of the tracks featured a traditional Middle Eastern sound, two explored a graceful jazz touch like the song you heard and the final track was somewhere in between. We chose one of the jazz tracks. Seductive and surprising.

Thanks for visiting, Katherine. Please come back anytime with your comments and ideas.

P.S. Sorry about the removed post. That was just me making a typo.

what is the name of that artist? I know that she was syrian, but i didnt quite catch her name. Does she have anything else out right now, or is her career just underway?

Hey Ryan,

That silky voice belongs to Gaida Hinnawi and the song is called "Matha Aqoolo." She is Syrian, but her MySpace page lists roots all over the place: Kuwait, Paris, Detoit and her current home, New York.

I've searched all over the web for an album by her with no luck. But you can listen to more of her music on MySpace.

Keep listening, Ryan... We're considering a show featuring Gaida in September.
